StormPulse does not have a backend server or database. No personal information is transmitted to or stored by us. Here is a complete picture of what data flows where when you use the app:
| Data | What happens to it | Stored by us? |
|---|---|---|
| GPS coordinates | Sent to Open-Meteo (weather) and BigDataCloud (reverse geocoding) to look up your local forecast. Never stored by us. | No |
| City searches | Sent to Open-Meteo's geocoding API to find matching cities. Never stored by us. | No |
| Saved locations & theme preference | Stored only in your browser's localStorage on your own device. Never transmitted anywhere. | No — your device only |
| Feedback form submissions | If you submit the feedback form, your message and any details you provide are sent to Netlify Forms. This is the only place user-submitted data touches a third-party server. | By Netlify only |
The app uses your browser's localStorage to remember your saved locations, last-searched city, theme preference, and which version of What's New you've seen. This data:
— Lives only on your device and is never transmitted to any server
— Is not a cookie and does not require consent under most privacy frameworks
— Can be cleared at any time through your browser's settings (Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data, or equivalent)
The app fetches weather and map data from several public sources. When you use the app, your IP address and request details may be visible to these services under their own privacy policies:
| Service | What it receives | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Open-Meteo | Coordinates or city name for weather lookup | open-meteo.com/en/terms |
| NWS / NOAA | Coordinates or zone ID for alerts and radar | noaa.gov/protecting-your-privacy |
| BigDataCloud | GPS coordinates for reverse geocoding (city name lookup) | bigdatacloud.com/privacy-policy |
| Netlify | Hosts the app and receives feedback form submissions | netlify.com/privacy |
| Google Fonts | Serves the IBM Plex font family used for display | policies.google.com/privacy |
Open-Meteo is designed with privacy in mind and does not store personal data. All NWS and NOAA services are operated by the US federal government under their privacy framework.
StormPulse does not display advertisements and does not work with any advertising networks. No tracking pixels, ad scripts, or behavioral targeting of any kind are present in the app.
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected about them and to request that it be deleted.
StormPulse does not collect, sell, or share personal information as defined by the CCPA. We have no personal information to disclose or delete. If you submitted feedback through our feedback form, that data is held by Netlify — you can contact us at the address below to request its removal.
StormPulse is primarily designed for US users and US weather data coverage. If you are accessing the app from the European Union or European Economic Area, the following applies:
Legal basis for processing: When you use the "Use My Location" feature, your GPS coordinates are processed on the basis of your explicit consent (you choose to tap the button and grant location permission). Coordinates are used solely to fetch local weather and are not retained by us.
Data minimization: The app is designed to use the minimum data necessary. Location is never stored server-side. Preferences are stored locally on your device only.
Your rights: Under GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, or erase personal data held about you. Since we hold no personal data server-side, there is nothing to access or erase on our end. For data held by third-party services (Netlify, Open-Meteo, etc.), please refer to their respective privacy policies linked above.
StormPulse does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. The app does not have user accounts or registration of any kind.
If this privacy policy changes in a meaningful way, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be updated. Since the app collects no personal information, changes to this policy are unlikely to affect your privacy in practice.
